I didn't want 'kwc.org dead' to be the top message on my LJ account, so here's a quick update to those that stumble here.
- kwc.org is alive. In fact, it hosts my blog - kwcblog is the name of the LJ account that has the feed from my blog - I also help maintain movabletypo and 99 |

| kwc.org dead |
[Jan. 2nd, 2004|12:05 am] |
I returned from vacation to find my computer acting funny. It started crashing and immediately rebooting, which is always a bad sign because it means the hardware is failing. I was hoping to be able to get a good backup of it before it became really flaky, but it went down for good tonight. It looks like I'll have to do a motherboard upgrade earlier than planned. This is probably a good thing, because my dad's new computer is faster than mine, and that just won't do.
kwc.org will be down for another day, and maybe several more as I ponder how to protect myself against future problems like this. When it reappears it may be filled with a bunch of posts that I was intending to make, such as to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Hopefully whatever the problem was hasn't started corrupting the data on disk. I have a bad feeling that the memory went bad, which is never a good thing, and it's been two months since my last real backup I believe, which is stupid of me.
Hmm, another good result of this is that I can hold off posting my New Years resolutions until I bring kwc.org back online... (damn you)

| LJ crossposting |
[Dec. 19th, 2003|05:11 pm] |
|
Someone wrote a plugin for Movable Type that will allow me to crosspost my entries directly onto nowhun, instead of the rss feed. Would people prefer this? If I put in a little work, I can probably make it more selective about my entries as well so that you don't get the full brunt of it. In either case, I won't get to this until after X-mas, but it would be nice to know what you all (three of you) think. |

| my blogs |
[Dec. 5th, 2003|11:02 am] |
I now have another blog, in fact, I have a couple more now so I figure I'll crosspost this to outline what's what.
There's my main blog, kwc blog, which will always be my main blog because I enjoy the expressive power of Movable Type and its related plugins. On this blog I'll try to keep it to posts that are by some definition related to me in some way (journal, photos, job) or expressing my interests (sports, books, movies). Also, I use movabletype on kwc blog to manage my reading list and movie list.
My friends Kenji and Justin helped set me up with a Live Journal account. I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to maintain the balance of posts with LJ. daveXtreme helped setup a syndicated feed from this blog to LJ, so the contents of this blog will be mirrored there. However, the way syndicated feeds work, I am not the "owner" of this feed so I can't do much to maintain/modify it.
I had to sign up for a Xanga blog so that I could post to my friend's Xanga blogs. I don't like the restriction that only Xanga members can post on their blogs, so I'm not planning on actually posting there, only maintaining it enough that they don't close the account (and thus, my ability to post).
There's also 1010, consisting of members of the 1010 Golf Ct house and extended community, which I've given occassional mention here already. I'm planning on moving more of my link posting over to 1010, which should reduce the number of posts on this blog and make it easier for those consuming my syndicated feed over at LJ.
To summarize: 1) kwc blog: posts related to me, or expressing my interests, including my movie and reading lists 2) 1010 (community blog for myself, metamanda, honeyfields, and pqbon): largely a mirror of the crazy stuff that BoingBoing and FARK provide me with. 3) kwc livejournal: I'm not sure what I'm going to use this for. If you are a LJ user it's much easier to follow along in the community and your comments get a nice little icon, so in many ways I have the account for the same reason as Xanga. I make posts more specific to the LJ community there, seeing as I participate in a lot of fantasy sports leagues with them and may make posts relating to those. 4) xanga blog: exists only so that I can post comments on Xanga, as Xanga is evil and doesn't allow anonymous comments. I'm not linking it here because it's of little interest. |

It looks like my worries about points were valid - I just tried to subscribe to , but Live Journal informed me that I don't have enough points. I imagine other people with free accounts will have the same problem, unless LJ somehow gives you more points over time. Maybe they do, I don't know. |

| kwcblog up |
[Dec. 5th, 2003|11:02 am] |
allplainstapped and davextreme helped me setup the syndicated feed from my other blog. It looks like someone had already setup the feed, though I have no idea who. It's good that they did, because free accounts don't have enough points to actually create a syndicated feed. You should be able to add kwcblog to your list in order to subscribe. Hopefully it doesn't cost you too many 'points', though I don't really understand what those are just yet. There are caveats about subscribing to the syndicated feed, which davextreme does a pretty good job of outlining on his LJ.
There appears to be another reader of my blog on LiveJournal. I had noticed this in my Web site statistics, but I guess I have no way of figuring out who. I would like to thank them, as I wouldn't have had enough points to add the feed otherwise. My actual blog has a lot of stuff on it because I post a lot of random links, so I may look into creating another feed that only publishes entries from certain categories (e.g. the whoopteedoo category, which is closer to actual journal entries). |

| LiveJournal + Movable Type |
[Dec. 4th, 2003|03:37 pm] |
|
I checked out daveXtreme's livejournal/movable type connection, and it looks like he actually has a paid account, and then adds a live journal syndicated feed on top of that. I'll have to ponder whether or not $25/year is worth not having to copy and paste to both blogs (actually, I have three blogs, as I had to sign up with Xanga to keep in touch with another group of friends). |

| Hello |

Kenji and Justin hooked me up with a Live Journal account. I already keep a blog elsewhere, so I'll have to figure out how much I'm going to maintain this one as well. I looked through the menus here, and I guess if I pay Live Journal I could have LiveJournal automatically import the contents of my other blog. Not sure this would be worth the money seeing as my other blog is, well, free, but we'll see. |
